Asteroid Mining

Mining asteroids with a starship is an easy, often profitable means of obtaining resources.
[edit] Operation
1. First of course is locating an Asteroid Belt. These are now listed in the Stellar Exploration Database. The asteroid belt in the Sol System has been virtually "played out" of antimatter and trycene, so it's usually best to try others.
2. Upon arrival at a star system, you can begin scanning asteroids (at roughly 500,000 km). Your science station scan will indicate what materials are obtainable from the asteroid. Typically, this is metal ore, but on occasion it will be trycene or antimatter.
3. Maneuver your ship to within 2 km of the targeted asteroid. Then power up either FWD or AFT type ATB-3 tractor beams and lock onto the asteroid with said tractor beam. Mining begins automatically.
4. The mining process occurs at about 1 unit per 5 seconds.
5. Once you have your load of ore, dock at an O.C.S., O.T.S., or Star base to refine your load, which will transfer into your ship's stores. The refining process occurs at 1 unit per 5 seconds.
[edit] Mining Rate and Cargo Conversion
-Each unit of Metal Ore mined = 150 Ingots
-Each unit of Trycene Crystal = 100 Trycene Crystal
So basicly you mine 25 Ingots per second and 20 trycene crystal per second. That's without the processing time, so you can always divide by 2 to have the real value.
