Healing
From Galactopedia
An avatar can receive two types of damage from combat, disease, or other injuries:
Stun Damage: Indicated in yellow on the health bar, is non-fatal damage that once it exceeds the character's hitpoints will cause the character to fall unconscious. Once unconscious, further stun damage will begin to cause physical damage.
Stun damage will heal over time, healing can also be accelerated by use of some medications or other stimulants, such as caffeine.
Physical Damage: Indicated in red on the health bar, is actual damage that once it exceeds the character's hitpoints will cause the character to die. The medical rechniques of the 23rd century are advanced enough that a dead character can oftentimes be revived, but once enough physical damage has been taken the character is irretrievably dead (see Immortrax). Physical damage can also lead to wounds.
For most injuries, time will eventually heal the damage. The healing time can be reduced or eliminated by use of the Medical Technology or Surgery skills.
The Medical System:
Your Medical Technology skill is your chance to succeed at healing (in %). Every HP a person is below 0, is 1% off that chance. So if somebody has 85 damage, but just 80 hp, you get a 5% penalty.
Medpacks give a bonus of +20 to your skill, but you can only equip 1, carrying 2 won't give you 40.
Medbeds on ships give +50 bonus.
Medbeds in hospitals (planetside) give a +100 bonus.
You get a wound once you get a certain amount of damage (not sure when exactly). Each wound deducts 10% from your maximum HP until healed. So if you have 80 max hp, and 2 wounds, you'll remain with 16hp you can't heal.
Wounds are healed by Surgery, using the same equation as with medical.
